OpendTect軟體是荷蘭dGB公司研發的一個地震目標檢測系統，集層序地層解釋系統、傾角導向、

OpendTectstartedlifeasanopensourceseismic
interpretationsystembackin2003.Itwasin2009,
however,thattheGeneralPublicLicense(GPL)was
adoptedandthesystembecametrulyopensource.
BetweenSept.1st.2009and31Dec.2010,OpendTect
wasdownloadedover40,000timesimplyingthat
todayitranksamongstthemostwidelyusedseismic
interpretationsystemsintheworld.

Weadoptedtheopensourcemodeltocreateatruly
openplatformforseismicinterpretation.While
seismicinterpretationsoftwarehadadvanced
considerablyoverthelastfewyears,theindustry
stillsufferedfromalackofintegrationbetween
differentapplicationsandalackofinputfrom
users.Technologyadvanceswerealsobeingblocked
throughasystemthatwasmonopolizedbyjustafew
players.Ifyouwantedtolaunchanewtechnology,
youhadtobuildacompleteinterpretationsystem
aswell.Inotherwords,vendorshadtospend99%
oftheirtimeonbuilding/maintainingthe
environmentwhileonly1%wasspentoncreating
trulynewtechnology.Wewantedtoshortenthegap
betweenacademicresearchandoperational
deployment,andenablegeo-scientistsinthe
industrytodeploybrightideasinaprofessional
